Happy Birthday PRC Recovery

I can hardly believe our first birthday celebration is here and looking back it seems like only yesterday we welcomed our first client.

I had butterflies in my stomach not knowing what to expect but the excitement from the staff that night made me realise I’m most definitely not in this alone. It turned out to be the start of an amazing journey, a journey I am truly grateful for each day.

Starting this initiative over 4 years ago came with so many mixed emotions. Starting a business in a new field was daunting in itself an addiction, being so cunning, baffling, and powerful often made me doubt if I was strong enough to pursue what I can only describe as a calling. But walking the journey of recovery with my husband and everybody in the fellowship who became like family encouraged me to listen to that inner voice driving me forward. It was most certainly a bumpy road since we opened, as with any new business.

The truth is, I have learned so much and met so many amazing people on this road. In over 15 years in corporate business, for the first time in my life, it feels like I have a purpose. I cannot express my gratitude enough to the team standing beside me.

To my husband, Mart, our Recovery Coach. You are truly my hero. To have walked this road of recovery with you has inspired me in more ways than you can imagine. Because of you I can do what I love and your contribution to our program is indescribable. Seeing the dedication of every client, sharing your story and how they look up to you makes me love you more. You most certainly have not had the easiest road in recovery but with your honesty and compassion, you lead our clients by example.

To my right hand, Kathy, I can still remember when you came for your interview. I never could have imagined what an asset you will become to this centre. You stuck with me through thick and thin and became my shoulder to cry on when I felt like giving up. You remind me that we can’t save the world but keep trying by staying dedicated and committed to our clients and their families who want to recover. Your compassion and empathy are truly admired.

To our resident mother, and my mother, Rika, I cannot say thank you enough. Seeing you with our clients reminds me of what a wonderful mother you are. Always being there to make a joke, pull a prank or give out hugs to start their day. Thank you for accepting them as your own and always making them feel like they are part of our family. Your contribution helps me to build on my dream.

My dearest Margret, our social worker. Your loyalty and dedication to the team are valued in so many ways. You push through the most difficult tasks with a smile on your face and no challenge is too big for you. Thank you for everything you do daily to help families and clients start their journey of recovery.

To our newbies, Daniele and Octavea. Your addition to our team makes the family unit here whole. I not only value your expertise and life experience but also the passion you have to dedicate your life’s work to something I believe in wholeheartedly. May your journey with us be truly memorable.

To all our professional consultants. Too many to mention but important in your capacity. It is truly an honour to be working with like-minded people. Thank you for putting your trust in us and sharing our program philosophy.

Last but not least, our clients and their families. There is no greater honour than someone willing to put their trust in us to help them through such a difficult battle. Through each client, we learn so much that can be contributed to our program and make us an industry leader. Thank you for becoming part of our extended family. A true family unit that can laugh and cry together in all things big and small.

To the next year ahead, may it be an even greater journey that is just as blessed. Take on the challenges and embrace the victories, one day at a time.
