Sex and love addiction, also known as intimacy-related disorders, can disrupt an individual's ability to work, maintain relationships, and fulfill daily activities. People with sex and love addiction may exhibit compulsive sexual behaviors, spending excessive time and effort on individuals to whom they are addicted. This obsession can lead to a focus on becoming obsessive and may value the object of their affection above themselves. Sex addiction encompasses various activities, such as unsafe sex, cybersex, prostitution, compulsive masturbation, multiple affairs or sexual partners, and pornography consumption. The disorder is characterized by recurrent, intense sexual fantasies, urges, and behaviors that consistently interfere with other activities and obligations. Individuals with sex addiction may engage in sexual behaviors in response to dysphoric mood states or stressful life events, despite efforts to control or reduce these behaviors.
